White Rock

White Rock residents have a average of 2,000 hours of sunshine each year in which to enjoy the warm, shallow waters of the Semiahmoo Bay - the warmest ocean beach in mainland British Columbia. Favourite activities include fishing, swimming, beachcombing and windsurfing.

White Rock has a large senior population: About 50 per cent of the city's residents are seniors. Because the city makes a special effort to cater to their needs, excellent medical care and housing facilities are available in White Rock.

White Rock is becoming more diverse as more commuters and families move into the area. Due to the increased demand for housing, needs are being met with everything from view homes to condominiums.

From its roots as a seaside resort, White Rock is known for its beach-front and 1,500-foot pier. The white rock on the beach gives the city its name. Visitors can enjoy walking along the pier and promenade, visiting the unique shops and sampling the cuisine at waterfront restaurants.

White Rock is also known as a thriving arts conununity. Residents enjoy concerts, live theatre and dance. An annual Festival of the Arts in July hosts approximately 100 artists from all over the Pacific Northwest.

Although White Rock's main industry continues to be tourism, an increasing number of retail stores and services cater to the expanding population. Located about five minutes from the Canada/U.S. border and 45 minutes from Vancouver, White Rock is favoured as a convenient and beautiful road stop for those traveling in either direction.
